Weight? NO, You Wait...

Nothing like making the first ever blog entry with some attitude. Oh, well.

My left knee has been for crap ever since the patella tendon was ripped in March of this year.

After more surgery, casts, infections, braces, rest, exercise and now a "dead guys" tendon now replacing the now removed original tendon... My attitude has been good, and even with all the questions, etc...I only have one area that really rips me.

That is the "advice" I get from friends, non-friends, bystandards, homeless people, and barnyard animals that ..."oh, if you just lost some of that weight...then you would not have these problems"..."just work off some of that gut and you will be fine", "at least with your knee you cannot walk through the buffet"

Here is my one and only reply -- SHUT UP! Yea, I mean that in all the rudeness that it sounds.

And yes I sound defensive and sensitive...here is the rant.

1. I was fat when fat wasn't cool... I have had weight issues my entire life, been made fun of by others, and told my life be so much better if I just lost weight. Now the general population of the US has not only caught up...but many have passed me by. All you have to do is walk through any mall or ballpark.. Just think I was not a outcast, but a trend setter!

2. I know having extra weight can have some adverse health issues. I am not in any kind of denial, nor do I hold myself as an example as the picture of healthy living. Would I like to be better?...sure...but I would also like to sell-out the Fox Theatre for a "E Man Comedy Show" we all make choices and it is always a work in progress.

3. I am fine with who and what I am...This by no means gives me an excuse to make bad choices, but if you think my "look" is going to keep me from living a great life and "showing up" You really do not know me. By far, as judged by me, I am the sexiest fat guy on the planet...now if I could just be the funniest...

4. I have and plan to continue my athletic activities, I enjoy power lifting, baseball, wrestling/mma (both real and planned) Sometimes that extra strength and weight has been to my benefit. As soon as the cast comes off..I am right back at it. So if you think I am sitting here blogging with potato chip crumbs all over the computer, well I will have you know they are sun chips...so there. I will see you in the Weight Room or the Ring... if you want to grab a bat lets go hit.

5. I have turned my weight to my advantage in Entertainment...not only has it given me some good material to talk about, but it gives me a very unique brand in the marketplace. Good looking thin guys are a dime a dozen.

6. I have long ago quit saying to my friends "I am just saying this to help you" or "It is just because I care about your health" Becuase I realize that everytime I do this it was just to show that I am was somehow doing better than that person. I only told people to workout when I was working out reguraly-or look what a great person I am.. as compared to you. If I really care about them, I say "taking action on choices are tough but YOU make the choice, and if you accept that and start from there, you will be OK>

Wow...Done, Done, and Done. It is usually at this point that I am supposed to say that I didn't mean to be so direct, blah, blah, blah...

Well, if your going to give me the "just take off the pounds, and you would never have had the knee problem..." routine, or any other "advice" about how I live my life without me asking...

Just keep quiet (see, that's a little nicer)

Until The Next Time I cop an attitude... Have a nice day.

Al,

As a large person myself I understand the temtation to see a buffet and pull up a chair and enjoy. It seems ashame that for one hour of indulgence you must work out for three months to be the same size as you were when you started your meal. Do you think it was a fat man's tendon?

Al,

Be direct all you want! People can be so judgmental...or just mental!

Thanks for the laugh today!

Al,

I fully understand what you mean. As somebody who used to work out with the E-man on Cruise Ships I can attest to Al's ability to "Bring it".

Continued Luck with everything you do.

Hey Al,

Take heart, new research out even suggests that being overweight does not necessarily mean you are at risk for a host of health problems:

I'm 5'10" and 180lbs and blew my knee too. It happens. I will say though that the rehab works, do what they tell you and you'll be body slamming men in tights in no time!

Hi Al,
I love you just the way you are, however, I am concerned that your recent apurtenance may have been the funny bone of the late, Sam Kenison (spelling?), a deceased comedian with a propensity towards venting. Medical history has taught us that organ/body donor recipients have a history of "post mortem personality disorder". A syndrome where the patient unwittingly develops the alien personality (and physical) traits of the donor. If you notice yourself suddenly screaming at the idiots (like me)around you, "JUST SHOOT ME!" It's OK, this too will pass.
